![]() "Ramma Zushiki" (1734) shows pictures of Boat, Sanbo, and a modular origami called Tamatebako, besides Orizuru and Komoso. They folded it in half and called Komoso. To be accurate, Yakko-san did not exist at that time. More familiar origami models such as Orizuru and Yakko-san have been depicted in ukiyoe or patterns for kimono since 18th century. According to Ise Sadatake's "Tsutsumi-no Ki" (1764,) such origami originated in Muromachi era. ![]() There are many folding patterns for many purposes. Ocho Mecho, as well as Noshi, is an example of this ceremonial origami. Origami was included in the manners of the samurai class which was passed down by the Houses of Ogasawara, Ise, Imagawa, and others. It reads: Rosei-ga yume-no cho-wa orisue (The butterflies in Rosei's dream would be origami.) Here he referred to an origami model called Ocho Mecho (Male and Female Butterflies) as "orisue." We use it to wrap sake bottles mainly at the wedding ceremony. The oldest unequivocal document of origami is a short poem composed by Ihara Saikaku in 1680. Origami was called "orisue" or "orikata" in Edo era, and "orimono" from the end of Edo era to the early Showa era. We did not call paper folding origami in Japan until Showa era. In today's Japan, origami-tsuki (with origami) means authentic because connoisseurs write their appraisal on the origami since Edo era. An origami is a landscape piece of paper folded in half latitudinally. But it originally refers to a form of writing. We use the word origami from Heian era in Japan. But their pronunciation were different in old Japanese. The Japanese words for paper and gods have the same spelling, kami. We can see no relationship between Japanese religion and the origin of origami. In addition, they are not necessarily folded even now. However, they were never made of paper in ancient Japan. We use paper strips, shide or heisoku, and paper dolls, hitogata, in Shinto. But it is by no means an example of origami, since it is folded just squarely. In Japan, we use wrapping paper called tatogami or tato. There is no reason, however, for believing that they folded paper to make them. They refer to a story of Abe-no Seimei who made a paper bird and turned it to a real one, or another story about Fujiwara-no Kiyosuke who sent his ex-girlfriend a fake frog. ![]() Others say origami originated from Japan in Heian era. These suggest that paper was primarily writing material, not folding. The origin of the Japanese word for paper, kami, is said to be birch tree, kaba, or strips of wood or bamboo, kan. The Chinese character for paper, zhi, originally stood for writing material made of silk. The paper of Former Han dynasty shows no trace of origami. This opinion is based on the conjecture that origami started right after the invention of paper, for which we have no evidence. Some say origami originated in China around 2000 years ago. We know very little about the origin of origami. K's Origami : History of Origami K's Origami Fractional Library History of Origami Before Origami ![]()

![]() If you were to take a Hearthstone meta snapshot, all of these decks would be classified as Tier 1 and Tier 2. ![]() Plenty of other decks are pretty competent in the current meta, but these are clearly some of the top-tier Hearthstone meta decks. Guff the Tough is a five mana 8/8 Taunt minion with “Battlecry: Give your hero +8 Attack and gain 8 Armor.” This works great with Mark of the Spikeshell, which can double Guff the Tough to gain even more attack and armor for your hero. This particular version focuses on gaining attack with your Hero to finish the quest as fast as possible and get your hands on Guff the Tough. Quest Druid has been around for some time, but this is a completely new spin on the archetype. Brann Bronzebeard is also an essential card for this deck since you have plenty of Battlecry effects that give you card advantage.Ģx (7) Frostwyrm’s Fury Quest Druid Source: You can try out one Blood or Unholy rune, but losing the power of Lady Deathwhisper, Marrow Manipulator, and Frostwyrm’s Fury might hurt a lot in the late game. Most of these Death Knight decks focus on the Frost rune, using a triple Frost-rune strategy which is backed up by some powerful legendaries. If you’re worried about removal, you have some new tools like Arcane Wyrm and Arcsplitter, which can help out.Ģx (6) Deathborne Frost Death Knight Source: Įven though this is a pretty broad archetype, there are a few winning combinations, including this particular deck. ![]() At the top of your curve you have Deathborne, which deals two damage to all minions and also summons a 2/2 skeleton for each minion that dies. Irondeep Trogg can also bring a lot of early-game pressure, especially versus decks that focus on casting many cheap spells. This particular deck focuses on freeze effects and summoning skeletons through various cards. Control is out the window nowadays, especially since the entire Hearthstone meta is fast and aggressive. The Mage class has seen success over the years with control and aggro decks alike. A few missed removals from your opponent will quickly end in tears for him.Ģx (5) Shadow Word: Undeath Aggro Mage Source: This is a very annoying deck to play against since it constantly has threats on board that require an immediate answer. As you keep bringing back the dead, this will slowly chip away at your opponent’s health and patience. Your general gameplan starts unfolding during the mid-game, where you can make good use of Undying Allies and Animate Dead to bring back some of your Deathrattle minions. While it doesn’t have the strongest early game, you still have some cheap removal in the form of Mind Sear to deal with those early enemy minions. ![]() Essentially you can win any matchup with a good draw.Ĭompared to older Priest decks that leaned more into the control archetype, focusing on resurrecting your fallen units repeatedly until your opponent ran out of gas, Undead Priest is a fast and aggressive deck. All in all, this is still a powerful archetype that has very few bad matchups. Regarding removal, your cheapest and most efficient option is Serrated Bone Spike alongside your trust Blackwater Cutlass. Sinstone Graveyard and Necrolord Draka are excellent cards that work best during your miracle turns. This Miracle Rogue version focuses more on speed, and you still have some drawing power from Edwin, Defias Kingpin. Even though it has lost the drawing power that Gadgetzan Auctioneer and Field Contact, both those draw engines were relatively slow. Miracle Rogue Source: Īn archetype that has been around for a long time, Miracle Rogue still manages to come out on top in the current meta. So here are some of the most successful meta decks Hearthstone has to offer currently. If you are one of those players, you might be interested in discovering the current metagame. And even though Standard’s success has waned, plenty of players are still invested in this game mode. Battlegrounds fans should also pay attention to this Hearthstone Battlegrounds hero tier list guide. Blizzard has explored other game modes, with their variant of an auto-battler called Battlegrounds coming out on top. This is mostly due to a lot of competition with Wizards launching MTGA and Marvel Snap, also offering a very quick and easy to get into TCG. Hearthstone has been struggling in recent years to maintain an active player base. ![]() Even though Standard battles in Hearthstone have lost much of their popularity in favor of Battlegrounds, there is still an active metagame. ![]() ![]() When we break this organization of data, by for instance glitching or databending, a new utterance or visual expression appears, showcasing the otherwise obfuscated organiz ations of compression on the surface of the image. When you click an image, you get access to the noise artifacts per year. Underneath this very short essay I offer my most interesting findings per year. Currently the database includes findings from research done into 630 trailers (1998-2018) but I wish to extend it to 1980-2020, spanning the 40 years of advancements in digital technologies and its distortions. Then, if possible, I would interpret them. When watching these trailers I took screenshots whenever a distortion occured. My source for the trailers is the Internet Movie Database, where I accessed lists of the top-US Grossing Sci-Fi Titles per year. Starting with trailers from 1998, I reviewed 30 trailers per year to obtain an insight into the development of noise artifacts in Sci-Fi from before the normalization of the home computer, to Sci-Fi adopting the contemporary aesthetics of our ubiquitous digital devices. The Lexicon intends to offer an insight into the development of meaning in the aesthetics of distortion in Sci-Fi movies throughout the years, via an analysis of 1200 Sci-Fi Trailers. And this is what I researched in this “Lexicon of Glitch Affect”. This is why the glitch has evolved from meaningless break of a flow, to an effect with a signifying quality: over the past decades, the glitch has become a figure of speech. Today, the glitch effect is either used purely for its aesthetics, or as a reference to its technological cause. I can even deploy them as a face filter on instagram! As a result, glitches are far from the scary, unexpected break they once were. They are in the commercials of my least favorite politicians. ![]() ![]() Glitches are on the flyer of my local falafel shop in Berlin. Birdlife International."Status, abundance and habitat use of Blue-eyed Cockatoo Cacatua ophthalmica on New Britain, Papua New Guinea". Observations have been made of the blue-eyed cockatoo in other areas of the forest, but the density of these birds seems to be greatest in the primary forest region. Unlike other bird species endemic to these forests, which may have been able to fare well in less densely forested areas such as "forest gardens", the blue-eyed cockatoo apparently relies on primary forested areas. The traps used often prove to be damaging to the bird, some even consisting of branches covered in glue to capture them. Illegal trade has also caused a market for this species, adding pressure to their decline. This rapid clearing is to be thought to have an effect in the cockatoo's breeding, which would cause a decline in the population. The threat of this species is most likely due to the rapid clearing of lowland forest into oil plantations, in which the blue-eyed cockatoo make its nesting sites. Consequently, it was uplisted to vulnerable in 2008. Initially classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN in 2004, it is suspected to have become much rarer in recent times than was assumed previously. As of 2012, the blue-eyed cockatoo's population ranges from 10,000 mature individuals to 15,000 individuals in general. Psittacine habits also suggest that blue-eyed cockatoos may make altitude and seasonal migratory movements throughout the year. The nests are usually located in very large trees, at an average height of 41 m (135 ft). They are not very particular of the types of trees they choose to nest, but are found more abundantly and actively in primary forests versus gardened forests. Packs of the bird would fly 3,280 feet in the air, resulting in a difficult time catching a sighting of them. In the 1960s, researchers found it difficult to find the majestic bird due to their flight routes they took in these gardened forests. These low-land forests consist of primary (untouched) forests, selectively logged forests, and gardened forests, or ones tended by indigenous people. The blue-eyed cockatoo is endemic to the lowland forests of New Britain east of New Guinea, and it is the only cockatoo in the Bismarck Archipelago. They are also known to feed on insects and their larvae. The blue eyed cockatoo's diet mainly consists of various seeds and nuts, berries, and fruits. A lack of interaction could result in self-mutilation from the bird, that includes feather plucking. Phenomena is something like an amusement park ride that sails along pleasantly but uninterestingly, and then drops you fifty feet down. While Suspiria and Deep Red are works of art, Phenomena feels more intensely personal, as though Argento has dropped any pretense of what’s expected of him and is simply doing what he wants. And Phenomena is no worse in terms of acting than any other Argento film-giallo is rarely known for great performances, after all. Pleasence is delightful, however, and has great chemistry with the chimp, herself a very prominent player in the film. Phenomena has been criticized for its rather limited performances and unclear resolution-and certainly Jennifer Connelly became a better actress as she grew up. It should suffice to say that everything the film has introduced along the way does pay off – including an incongruous scene involving the chimp – and does so in maddest way possible. The solution to the mystery is definitely there and it does make sense – kind of – but the sudden plunge into excess is jarring and, in its own way, curiously delightful. But Phenomena really does stand by itself, both for artistry and total, batshit insanity. For experienced Argento viewer, you know that his films tend to get very weird in the third act, with the build-up to the denouement usually more coherent than the actual climax. What is most surprising about Phenomena is how slow-moving and creepy it is, avoiding more explicit acts of violence in favor of building tension and character. The music here is slightly less haunting than Suspiria, though it does emphasize Argento’s style, with bursts of head-banging rock and shrieking chords to underline apparently banal moments. There’s also a heightened emphasis on characterization and dialogue, especially between McGregor, Jennifer and, um, the chimp. But Phenomena is less soaked with atmosphere than some of Argento’s more popular works-there is the play of light and dark, but none of the flights of color and fantasy that come into movies like Tenebrae or Inferno. There are some excellent set pieces, including one scene where Jennifer summons the help of flies to defend her from bullies, as well as the usual giallo staples of sudden, violent deaths with bright red blood and rolling heads. And for that, it’s actually a refreshing experience. While there are the hallmarks of giallo, especially in the opening scene, the film is more interested in exploring the bizarre affinity between Jennifer and the insects than it is in focusing on the quest for the killer. Phenomena is a rare Argento film in the sense that it doesn’t spend all that much time dwelling on the visual poetry of murder. McGregor discovers that Jennifer has a telepathic connection to insects and realizes that this connection might be the key to finding the killer. One night, Jennifer sleepwalks and witnesses a murder, then stumbles onto the home of Professor John McGregor (Donald Pleasence), a disabled etymologist with a chimpanzee helper, with whom she forms a close friendship (both the professor and the chimpanzee). The film mostly follows Jennifer Corvino (Jennifer Connelly), the daughter of a famous actor, who arrives in Switzerland to attend the Richard Wagner Academy for Girls (yes, really), where a bunch of violent murders have been taking place. Dario Argento’s Phenomena opens with the brutal murder of a schoolgirl, somewhere in Swiss Alps, by a…well, something chained in a room in a remote cabin. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Final Draft 7 CD-ROM comes with installers for both Windows and Mac systems. What they accused him of is basically illegally copying the sound of a track they came out with back in 2008 called “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved”, which itself was a notable, though lesser, hit. Jim, as he was known, was the eldest son of James LeVoy and Beverley Sorenson, perhaps Utah’s leading entrepreneurial- and investment-minded family of all-time. It is nearly impossible to tell the story of Sorenson without first providing some contextual background on its primary founder, James Lee Sorenson. So when Sorenson recently announced a change in its majority ownership, one that pegged the 20-something-year-old company at unicorn status, I paid attention. Helping to bridge the communication divide between the hearing and Deaf communities was the vision behind the birth in 2000 of now Taylorsville, Utah-based Sorenson, née Sorenson Communications. Many decades have since passed, with all sorts of familial and personal journeys along the way, many shaped by the fact that there is a segment of the population in every country, and at every economic and educational level, with hearing loss. She was my baby sister before she lost her ability to hear, and to my five-year-old mind, she was still my little sister and nothing had really changed. With a new CEO at its helm and new outside owners, is Sorenson Communications poised for its breakout moment?įor my mother, the insight that something serious had occurred was when she accidentally dropped a pan in the kitchen and her 18-month-old daughter did not react.Ī doctor’s visit later and her suspicions were confirmed: apparently the high fever that had afflicted my younger sister a few weeks earlier had severely damaged something in her nervous system, and she was now profoundly deaf, with a hearing loss estimated at over 98% in both ears.Īs I attempt now to recall how our then young family of five adjusted to this new dynamic, nothing comes to mind. ![]() |
